Also located in B Block is the Reprographics Room, and a lift for use by students with mobility aids or other relevant access arrangements.

Café

The cafeteria at FUS is a spacious seating area to enjoy with your friends. Hot food, sandwiches and snacks are available during break and lunch times and can be paid for using cash, card, or thumbprint.

There are two outside areas to the cafeteria: the Quad and the Conservatory, which are both open to all students.

The Medical Room is located outside the cafeteria, opposite the Conservatory. This is open during break and lunch time. Many of the staff at FUS are First Aid trained, so if you need help more urgently please seek out the nearest staff member and we can assist you.

C Block

This is where the English department is based, with several dedicated classrooms. In C Block you will also find three practical laboratories which make up part of our Science department.

D Block

D Block houses the second half of our Science department, with several dedicated labs and friendly, knowledgeable teachers. Also in this building is the Modern Foreign Languages department. It is here that your French and Spanish classes are held.

As well as classrooms, D Block also contains the CCN Base and is where our Careers Advisor is located. For students with mobility aids, there is a lift in the central part of the building.

CCN Base

The CCN Base is a dedicated space with several purpose-built rooms and its own team of friendly, helpful teachers. It can be found on the ground floor of D Block.

E Block

E Block is the creative hub of FUS. We offer a variety of creative subjects, all of which have a home in this building. The main Atrium is available to art students for quiet independent work during study periods, and Foundation Art students have access to a dedicated room for their ongoing coursework.

There are two large D&T rooms where you will be supervised in learning to appropriately use a variety of machines and tools ranging from simple handsaws to CADCAM mills and 3D printers.

In this building there is also a photography Darkroom, several classrooms for arts and textiles, a well-provisioned computer room and two full-use kitchens for Food & Nutrition classes.

The classes that call this block home are:

College Block

The College Block is a purpose-built centre for Sixth Form students to study Criminology, Sociology and Childcare. Physical Education non-practical lessons are also held in this building.

A common room is available for Sixth Form students to use during their free periods.

T Level Building

The T-Level Building is a brand-new block containing two high-end computer labs and a large seminar room. It hosts the FUS Robotics club Team Python, who compete in country-wide competitions with their creations and have won multiple trophies. Computer science classes are held in the labs, including the Software Development T-Level course.

Sports Centre

Ferndown Leisure Centre shares with FUS its Sports Centre building, where students have use of the facilities for their Physical Education practical classes. This includes a 25m swimming pool and two gym halls, and separate changing rooms for FUS students.

Outside Areas

Tennis Courts / Fire Assembly Point

The tennis courts are available for play during break and lunch times, when not otherwise in use by extra-curricular clubs or the leisure centre.

Fire drills are conducted on a regular basis to ensure safety for everyone at FUS, and as part of this you will have an assigned part of the tennis court to go to during these drills so that registers can be taken.

B Block Gardens and Bike Sheds

The B Block garden is intended as a quieter area for students where you can relax during their break and lunch times.

The bike shed is also located here for students who cycle to school, where you should securely attach your bicycle to the railings for the duration of the school day. Please remember to take all loose belongings with you as the school is not responsible for any loss or theft of items left unattended.

Cafe Quad & Conservatory

The cafeteria has two outside areas to enjoy. One of these is the Conservatory, which is a covered seating area located near the T-Level Building. Even in wet or extremely sunny weather you can enjoy some fresh air as you eat, as the awning will protect you from the elements.

On the other side of the cafeteria is a door to the Café Quad, which is the main outside area for students. Here you can rest at one of the numerous benches, or use the space to play safely.

There is a fenced parcel of land here which is part of our ‘rewilding’ project: the ground has been seeded with native wildflowers and will be mown rarely, encouraging these plants to thrive and attract pollinators such as bumblebees.

Creative Quad

The Creative Quad is a smaller outside area surrounded on three sides by the E Block building, accessible by stairs and by ramp. There are some seating areas within this quad, and a bike shed for student bicycles.

Hall Quad

The Hall Quad features ample seating space and is decorated with several statues and wall artwork made by previous FUS students, and two flagpoles – one of which proudly bears the flag of the School House with the most points!

Woodland Quad

The Woodland Quad is tucked away between the College Block and C Block, and despite the proximity to the main road is a peaceful place to spend lunch times and free periods.

There is some outdoor seating and the trees provide shelter from the rain or hot weather. As with all of the quad areas at FUS, rubbish bins are provided for your wrappers and leftovers, so please keep the area clean.
