ANOTHER OUTSTANDING GCSE YEAR FOR FERNDOWN UPPER STUDENTS

Ferndown Upper students are celebrating another successful round of GCSE results this morning.

In fact, more than 80% gained grade 4s and above and over 60% of students gained a grade 5 or higher, when this is coupled with the fact that 20% of students gained the top grades, it puts the students’ hard work into perspective.

Amongst those celebrating today include:

Katie Lloyd-Burrell; six 9s, one 8, two 7s and a 6.

Lauren Harman; four 9s, five 8s and a 6.

Daria Rampelt; three 9s, five 8s and two 7s.

Emily Moss-Holland: five 9s, two 8s and three 6s.

Dillon Gilbert; two 9s, six 8s, a 6 and a 5.

James Hume; four 9s, an 8, three 7s and two 6s.

Abigail Jobbins; one 9, seven 8s and two 6s.

Kieron Stewart; one 9, four 8s and four 7s.

Emily Gillison; one 9, four 8s, four 7s and a 6.

Zane Rocha; one 9, five 8s, one 7 and three 6s.

In addition, there were a number of other students who made exceptional individual progress, including;

Jasmine Derrick,

Myles Wood and

Olivia Lawton

Many of the Year 11s will now be preparing to return to the school’s Sixth Form, where they will be hoping to replicate today’s success in their A Level studies, replicating this year’s Sixth Form leavers, who marked their own excellent exam performances last week.

‘All of my hardwork has paid off, thank you for all your help and making us do us extra revision – it worked!’

‘I’m very happy and off to Bournemouth and Poole College for Automotive Apprenticeship hopefully linked to Porsche!’

‘I did better than my sister and I’m now mum’s favourite. I can’t wait to come back to Ferndown Upper Sixth Form for Biology and Double PE.’

Philip Jones, Headteacher, said:

There have been some brilliant GCSE achievements today both for individual students and across the whole year group, following an equally successful A Level results day last week.

“I would like to congratulate these young people for their hard work and dedication and the way each of them has contributed to our school community alongside their academic learning. I would also like to thank our wonderful staff for the time and support they have provided our students, this has been a real team effort.”

GCSE Results 2023

Ferndown Upper School students today received their long-awaited exam results. They have been superb throughout their year eleven, rising to every challenge and they have deservedly performed extremely well in their GCSEs.

Despite national results dropping, Ferndown’s students bucked this trend and equalled the school’s best ever GCSE results, equalling 2019 and 2022, when Ferndown Upper’s results were the best in Dorset.

The Ferndown Family would like to congratulate all of our students with special mention going to the following:
Highest Attainment
Reece Hulme: 9 grade 9s and a grade 8.
Joseph Child: 8 grade 9s and 2 grade 8s.
Rosie Matthews: 6 grade 9s, a Distinction* and 3 grade 8s.
Max Paulwell: 5 grade 9s, 4 grade 8s and a grade 7.
Thomas Amey: 4 grade 9s, 5 grade 8s and a grade 7.
Joe O’Connor: 5 grade 9s, a Distinction, a grade 8 and 3 grade 7s.
Daniel Beaman: 4 grade 9s, 2 grade 8s and 3 grade 7s.
Archie Weaver: 3 grade 9s, 6 grade 8s and a 6.
Hayden Tait: 3 grade 9s, 3 grade 8s, 2 grade 7s, a 6 and a 4.

Highest Progress
Gaining over two grades better in every subject (than their government set targets) were Kaleb Costello, Gizem Myumyun, Isobel Hutchinson, Henry Evans, Yve Short, Josh Thompson and Sahid Miah.

Joseph Child, Hayden Tait, Thomas Amey and Rosie Matthews appear in both the attainment and progress lists and this really does demonstrate their superb achievement.

Headteacher, Philip Jones commented, “I am very proud of the achievements of our students, they have worked really hard and they deserve these results. May I take this opportunity to wish them all the very best for their future, they have been a pleasure to teach”.
