Work Experience

Thank you for your interest in applying to Ferndown Upper School for work experience. We offer placements every year to individuals who are interested in a career in education and pride ourselves in being a forward-thinking school that encourages self-development for all. Before proceeding further, please read the notes below which will help with your application.

All requests are subject to availability, a brief application and an enhanced disclosure DBS check (if you are not in possession of a portable DBS and would like us to carry out a standard DBS check for you, there will be a £50 charge. This needs to be completed before you begin your placement with us).

Mrs K Curchin or Mrs K Raisbeck will be able to provide information and advice, and find and secure work experience placements. Please contact them via email for more information, or find them in their offices for an in-person chat.

Please download and complete the Work Experience Application Form on this page and e-mail it to our Personnel Officer, Ms A Baxter in the first instance to check the availability of departments.

SCITT, PGCE and Teach First applications will receive priority for places available.

If you are a trainee teacher on an ITT course…

Please ask your training provider to contact the school via Ms Baxter or Mrs Elliott for details of our professional placements. We currently work with Chichester University and Bournemouth Bay Teacher Training Partnership but are open to applications from new providers.

An ex-student of Ferndown Upper School?

If you left the school more than two years ago and do not have any siblings currently in school, please apply using the attached form. If you have recently left, or still have siblings in the school, we suggest gaining a wider experience in a different context. We are here to help if you have difficulty finding work experience elsewhere- please contact Mrs Sally Emms at the school and we will endeavour to put you in touch with a local contact in your subject area of interest.
