Throughout your time with us at Ferndown Upper School, you will progress through our varied careers programme that includes a mixture of subject based learning, visits to local providers and off-timetable sessions to make sure that you are fully prepared for the ever changing world of work.
Within each year group you will experience a wide variety of careers-based learning relating to your next step in life.
By the end of Year 9 you will have:
– Taken part in an off-timetable day to learn more about your GCSE option choices.
– Had the opportunity to have a careers appointment to discuss your GCSE option choices.
– Received subject related careers education through your normal lessons.
– Taken part in 6 different careers education related tutor time sessions.
By the end of Year 10 you will have:
– Taken part in our ‘Meet the Employer’ event where you will meet with up to 5 different local employers.
– Received subject related careers education through your normal lessons.
– Taken part in 6 different careers education related tutor time sessions.
By the end of Year 11 you will have:
– Taken part in an off-timetable day to learn more about your post-16 options.
– Attended a post-16 assembly with our local external providers.
– Received subject related careers education through your normal lessons.
– Had a 1-1 careers guidance appointment with our Careers Adviser – Miss Giles.
By the end of Year 12 you will have:
– Attended Bournemouth University for a university preparation day.
– Had the opportunity to attend a UCAS Convention in order to learn more about your post-18 choices.
– Taken part in multiple careers education related tutor time sessions including assemblies from Universities.
– Had the opportunity to attend a work experience placement for a week.
– Received subject related careers education through your normal lessons.
By the end of Year 13 you will have:
– Received subject related careers education through your normal lessons.
– Had the opportunity to have a 1-1 careers guidance appointment with our Careers Adviser – Miss Giles
Help and support
At Ferndown Upper School, you have a dedicated Head of Careers, Miss Giles. She is available for all careers related learning support that you may require. This can be help with writing your first CV, information on local colleges and universities or to talk about your option choices.
