Letter To Parents – 28th April 2023

Dear Parents and Carers,

New Staff
As we start the new term, we would like to express a warm welcome to the following new staff who have joined the FUS family:
Katie Raisbeck – Teacher of Sociology
Phil Crossley – Head of Geography

Admissions Update
Following our successful open evenings and school tours we have received a record number of students who will be joining us in Year 9 in September 2023. We are now oversubscribed for our 5th consecutive year and are very proud that we continue to be popular and a first preference for local and surrounding families.

A Level Chemistry
For the first time our A Level Chemistry students took part in the Royal Society for Chemistry’s Olympiad competition. This involved sitting a two-hour exam paper covering topics covering Rocket Fuels and Cheese, where students had to apply their chemical knowledge to these unfamiliar subjects to answer challenging questions. Seven students were brave enough to take on the challenge; Freddie Bishop, Aiden Holmes, Megan Raison, Jessica Stainer, Liam Suddrey, Aidan Sweeney and Jacob Wischhusen with Jessica, Liam and Jacob winning awards.

Sixth Form Mock Interviews
Year 12 students are looking forward to and preparing for their Mock Interview Day on May 11th. We know many local businesses and employers have offered their time and we are excited to open our doors to you as you provide our students with this valuable experience. If you would like to be involved in preparing our students for their next steps in any capacity then please do email the Sixth Form Team.

New York and Washington Trip October 2024
This exciting trip moves ahead and we will shortly confirm our booking and start planning the itinerary in detail. There are still places available so if you are interested, please speak to Mr Martin at

Work Permits
To ensure we are able to support our students as best as possible with their studies, we are now requesting their part-time working information. If your child(ren) currently has a part-time job, please can we ask that you complete the Microsoft form below as soon as possible to ensure that we have a record of their working hours.

Uniform Request
If you have any unwanted uniform, we would welcome donations into Reception. We are hoping to hold a second-hand uniform event in the near future.

Athletics Track and Synthetic Football Pitch Proposal
We are continuing to work with Ferndown Town Council, who are the trustees of the King George 5th Charity, to enable the school to build an athletics track and synthetic football pitch for the students and local community. Please see our website for details.

New T Level Block
Will be open before half term and we are very excited to finally be able to deliver our lessons from there.

Vape Spot Checks
In order to stop students bringing vapes into school, we will start to carry out spot checks on random form groups during morning registration using the school’s detector wands.

Yours faithfully,
Philip Jones
