Letter To Parents 12th September 2022

Dear Parents and Carers,

Mourning Period for Queen Elizabeth

The school will remain open as usual and planned school events will continue this week and the students will be reflecting upon the life of Queen Elizabeth and her impact during their morning tutor times.

The official date of the State Funeral is Monday 19th September, and as this will be a Bank Holiday, the school will be closed.

Mobile Phone Ban

I am very pleased to report that this new initiative has gone extremely well, with the students responding superbly.

Early Close This Thursday

Please remember that the school will close at 1.10 on Thursday to allow staff and students to attend the memorial service for George.

Summer Works

You will have seen a lot of scaffolding around the school site this year and you may have seen the foundations that await our new T Level block so I thought I would update you on our main site improvements.

  • We have had new flat roofs installed upon our A and D blocks.
  • We have also had a lot of solar panels installed on 70% of our roof space and we are already enjoying the benefits of this free electricity.

We are very thankful to Dorset Council for all of this work.

  • We have also remodelled our SEND and Pastoral areas into one custom designed area which has now been renamed the Student Hub.
  • And finally our new T Level block did run into issues, with the contractors initially hitting a power cable and then a water pipe and this has delayed its installation by another half term but we are still on course for a Christmas opening.

Athletics Track and Artificial Football Pitches

We have approached the KGV charity, which has the Ferndown Town Councillors as its trustees, with a proposal to swap the condemned Redgra land at the back of FUS for land close to the first and middle schools. This would then allow the school to source funding to build an athletics track and artificial football pitches. The charity currently has a consultation out, so if you are in support of this idea it would be great if you could let them know: www.ferndown.gov.uk/strategicplan2022. The school will also be conducting its own survey as we are really keen to gain improved sporting facilities for Ferndown. We have the agreement of Dorset Council and the first and middle schools and we now just need agreement from the KGV.
