Business Studies

Business affects every aspect of our daily lives. From the products we buy to the services we rely on, businesses shape the world around us, and most people will eventually work within a business or even run one of their own. Studying Business provides students with valuable skills and knowledge that support progression into a wide range of career pathways.

As a Business student, you will gain a clear understanding of how organisations start as small enterprises and develop into successful multinational companies. You will explore the external business environment, including economic influences, market conditions and competition, while also learning how to effectively manage and grow a successful business.

Throughout the course, you will develop essential skills such as independent learning, critical and reflective thinking, and an enquiring mindset. These transferable skills not only prepare you for further education and employment but also equip you to adapt confidently in an ever-changing business world.

Guest Speakers and Employer Links

Talks and workshops led by local business owners, entrepreneurs or professionals give students insight into different industries and career pathways. These sessions help bring business theory to life.

Work Experience and Business Visits

Visits to local businesses and their school work-experience placements allow students to see how organisations operate day to day, understand different job roles and appreciate the importance of teamwork and customer service.

Careers Links

Studying Business opens the door to an exciting and diverse range of career opportunities. It equips students with essential skills such as leadership, problem-solving, communication, financial awareness and decision-making — all of which are highly valued by universities and employers. Many students progress from A-level Business to study a wide variety of business-related degrees at university, including Business Finance, Marketing, International Business, and Business Management.

Former students have gone on to successful careers across multiple industries, working in areas such as International Marketing for advertising agencies, Business and Commercial Law, Architecture firms, Accounting and Finance, Human Resource Management, Account Handling, Product Development and Education. Others have chosen to gain hands-on experience through competitive apprenticeship programmes in Banking and with major multinational companies, combining real-world work with professional qualifications.

Whether students aspire to run their own business, work for a global organisation, or continue their academic journey, studying Business provides a strong foundation and the flexibility to pursue ambitious and rewarding futures.

Useful Information for Parents

We are always grateful for any support you can offer your young person as they move through their business course. Below are a few ways you can help alongside a range of revision resources.

    1. Encourage awareness of the real business world
Help your child link classroom learning to real life by discussing businesses you use every day, such as supermarkets, online retailers, banks or local shops. Talking about prices, customer service, branding and advertising helps reinforce key GCSE Business concepts. Encourage your child to follow age-appropriate news articles about companies, economic changes or new products, and discuss how these might affect businesses.
    2. Support independent learning and organisation
GCSE Business involves learning key terminology, case studies and applying knowledge to different scenarios. Encourage your child to keep organised notes, revise little and often, and meet deadlines for coursework or homework tasks.
    3. Highlight future opportunities
Help your child see how Business links to future pathways such as A-levels, apprenticeships, university courses and careers in finance, marketing, management or entrepreneurship. This can motivate them to stay engaged and ambitious.
    4. Some useful revision materials
We sell a full range of CGP Revision resources at school at cost price.  We also encourage the use of a range of different sources such as: BBC Bitesize, Tutor 2U, YouTube channels – TakingTheBiz, Bizconsesh to name a couple, We also make a wealth of revision resources available via our Teams platform.
