Central to the position, for the candidate with the right experience and vision, is the aim of making the department an integral part of Ferndown Upper School’s STEAM ethos of excellence, where every student matters.
Product Design is the current subject under the Technology umbrella that we focus on from Yr9 onwards and we currently have two GCSE cohorts per year at KS4 and one smaller group for each year group at KS5. The successful candidate will also be responsible for future curriculum development, with a view to the possible expansion of Post-16 provision across Technology.
The successful candidate will manage a team of mixed discipline specialists, many of whom teach multiple subjects across the faculty and oversee the deployment of technician and TA support. As a key position within the Art & Technology faculty, being able to effectively communicate with and support colleagues across the team and the wider school, will form an essential part of the role.

The Art & Technology Faculty
|The Technology department is situated in the same area of the school as the Art & Design facilities and like the whole block, benefitted from substantial remodelling of all the teaching areas a few years ago. Design Technology has two large workshop classrooms, machine room, laser cutter and department office and Food Technology has two large practical kitchens, with interconnected storage and washing-up areas. A large IT suite is conveniently situated between the two areas. Excellent teaching and learning is the primary aim of the faculty. Experienced teachers work collaboratively to add to and improve existing schemes of work, always aiming to develop a curriculum appropriate to the needs of our students.|

The expertise and work ethic of our technicians give support across the area, preparing resources and hands on support in lessons. The range of experience of other teaching staff gives a flexibility to planning of challenging schemes of work that build on the supportive team ethos that is embedded at Ferndown.|
