Medical
FUS provides a range of medical support to ensure the health and wellbeing of students across the School. This is provided by Mark Holdgate, our First Aid Officer.
The support includes:
- First Aid: Highly trained and qualified staff are available to provide immediate, effective first aid in response to minor and trauma injuries sustained on school premises as well as illness during the school day.
- Medical Room: Open from the start of the school day until 2:30pm. Students may only visit the medical room at break and lunchtimes. Outside of these times will be for emergencies or use of medical passes only.
- Care Plans: Individual healthcare plans are developed for students with ongoing medical conditions (e.g. asthma, diabetes, epilepsy), in collaboration with parents and healthcare professionals.
- Medication: School may store and administer prescribed medication, with parental consent and appropriate documentation.
- Emergency Procedures: Clear procedures are in place for medical emergencies, including contacting parents/carers and emergency services if necessary.
- Mental Health Support: This is through Pastoral care and can be linked to external mental health services to support emotional wellbeing.
- Health Education: As part of the curriculum, students receive education on physical and mental health, hygiene, and healthy lifestyles.
- Phones: As with school policy, students should not use their phones whilst in the medical room, aside those using them for diabetes monitoring, for safeguarding and confidentiality reasons.

These provisions aim to safeguard and support students’ health so they can participate fully in school life.
