Letter To Parents 16th March 2022

16th March 2022

Dear Parents and Carers,

Ukrainian Appeal

Emily Harriman has organised the school’s response to the crisis in Ukraine. We are collecting the following key items to send over.

  • Thermoses
  • Toothbrushes and toothpaste
  • Nappies
  • Dry sanitary products
  • Blankets
  • Torches and batteries
  • New underwear for men, women and children (sealed)

Sanctions Showing on Go

If you child does receive a school sanction, for higher tariff sanctions, the teacher will usually write a description of the event on Go so that you can see the reason, unfortunately this detail does not show on the Go app and instead you must log in via the web site to be able to access this information.

Staff INSET Day

Please be advised that there is a staff INSET day on Monday 25th April. All students will return to school following the Easter break on Tuesday 26th April.

The school is implementing a new school information system called Bromcom. It will not be fully live until September, when the new school year starts, but we will be ‘soft’ launching it from this Easter time, with the only initial change being that it will record pupil attendance. We will also provide all parents with a log in at this time so that you will be able to engage with Bromcom early.

Behaviour and Uniform

One of the main cornerstones of Ferndown’s success is that we have some non-negotiables of which ‘no-one has the right to affect your learning’ is one. This is because it is not fair for one student’s behaviour to either stop other students from learning or for them to take up the teacher’s time to the extent that the other students in the class get less help. We have noticed that certain students are not fully conforming to this principal recently and therefore the whole school will be focussing upon behaviour in the run up to Easter. Part of this is to focus on uniform because while it may seem less important, good uniform equals good behaviour which in turn equals achievement.

Yours faithfully,

Philip Jones
