Letter To Parents 01.02.21

Dear Parents and Carers,                                                                                                         1st February 2021

Some of you may have seen the news in the week about the extension to schools’ lockdown, and while we are disappointed that our students will not yet be returning to us, we are pleased that we now have some certainty about what will be happening in the upcoming weeks.

The key announcements were:

  • The earliest schools might ‘begin to re-open’ will be Monday 8th March, which is the start of the third school week after the half-term holiday.
  • There will be a plan / review sent out on Monday 22nd February (the first day after the half-term holiday), with further updates. As soon as we know, you will know.
  • When the decision to return has been made, schools will get two weeks’ notice of this. And we will update you straight away.

Sadly, this means that we now have at least four more school weeks of remote learning under the current arrangements. I know that this will be disappointing for many families and the students, but I hope that it provides some hope that there might be an end in sight, at least in terms of the students returning to school.

6th Form Interviews

These are now taking place and Mr Jones (Head of 6th From) has prepared a couple of really informative videos to help you, so remember to check these out. The number of applications are also looking very healthy, with over 60 external applications, so it looks like Ferndown’s reputation is growing.

Half-Term Provision

We have also received clarification from the Department for Education (DfE) that schools will not be asked to be open over half-term and we are pleased with this decision, as it will also all of the students (and their teachers) the opportunity for a digital detox.

Our Students’ Work

If you would like to see some of the superb work that our students have produced so far it is showcased in this clip:

Year 9 Options Launch

We held a very productive Y9 Q&A session last week and I hope that after this, and the Parents’ Evening, Y9 students and their parents now have all of the information they need to make a decision over their options for next year. Remember the school ‘options’ web page contains everything you need to know, including key information and a video from every Head of Subject.

And as a final point, audible books are free during lockdown.

Stay safe,
