I am delighted to welcome you to Ferndown Upper School’s website. As you navigate your way around the site, I hope that it will give you a clear idea of our values and the rich opportunities available for all who study and work here.
I am also very pleased to report that Ferndown enjoyed its most successful summer of results ever as well, with the headlines being; best ever 5A*-C E&M and best ever Value Added (which means how well students progress from starting in the school to when they take their GCSEs), this really is the best measure on how to judge a school, as it shows the impact that the school has made. This year Ferndown Upper received a score of 1010, which places it in the top third of the country for progress, and is a top five score for Dorset last year, the best in East Dorset. Our students also achieved our best ever iGCSE English results and for our 6th form, 42% of our students gained A* to B grades and we also received a score of outstanding and very good from ALPs (a national school evaluation organisation) for our AS and BTEC vocational results.
At Ferndown Upper we want our students to grow as caring, confident, independent young people who value their education and are ambitious for their future. Our success is based upon high expectations and outstanding support for all members of the school community. We are determined to ensure that every student achieves to their full potential.
We promote excellence and aim to develop a love of learning. Our dedicated, enthusiastic and highly qualified staff work tirelessly to ‘unlock’ the talents of all our students. Support and encouragement are provided at all times to help each student develop into a highly skilled, articulate young adult with the personal qualities and academic qualifications needed to succeed in higher education and employment. We are therefore keen for our students to take full advantage of the wide range of exciting activities which the school has to offer, both within the classroom and beyond.
We expect excellent attendance, punctuality, high standards of uniform and mutual respect for all members of the school community – care and concern for others is central to the work that we do. But most of all we expect students to strive to achieve their best.
Please use this website to keep abreast of our upcoming events and for our latest news – as you do, you will discover even more about the opportunities available for those who study and work at Ferndown Upper.
The Students, Staff and Governors are proud of being part of Ferndown Upper School; we hope that this web site will demonstrate this.
