A Very Busy Week at Ferndown Upper School
Well what a week we have had. This week we ran all of the following events.
Arts Week with various First Schools visiting us for drama, music and art lessons/viewings. Thank you to Mrs O’Connor, Mrs Dymond and Mr Holbrooke Jones, as well all the whole Art Department, for running such engaging events. The quality of work on display at the Arts Show on Friday, where all of our student’s exam work was on display, was excellent.
Community Day took place this Tuesday and was again extremely successful and fun, as well as making a difference to members of our local community. Some of the highlights were; spending a day in a local care home, creating some new art to be displayed at the front of the school (along with our Dorset scene) and a day learning how to, and then fixing, bikes for others. Well done to everyone who was involved and to our front office team and Mr Redwood for organising the whole event.
6th Form Progression Day also took place on Tuesday and I would like to thank all of the 6th form team and all of the businesses that came into school to speak to our students. Our Y12 students definitely left for the day, fully informed about their careers and further education options.
On Wednesday we were visited by ‘Bugman’ and students from WMMS and FMS were given the opportunity to delve into the world of bugs and insects. Thanks to Mrs Bothamley for organising another excellent STEM event.
Also on Wednesday, we took our Y9 Jon Egging Trust leadership students for their Graduation Ceremony at Bournemouth University, which was a very proud moment. Thank you to Mrs Edwards for all of the help and support that she has given the group over the previous school year.
On Thursday we ran our Y7 Activity Day, where over 200 students from EMS, FMA & WMMS came to visit us to receive a taste of what Upper School is like. The day was a resounding success and it was lovely to have so many enthusiastic and keen students in the school. A big thank you as well to Mrs Chater for organising the event, as well as all of the teaching staff who delivered such exciting and engaging lessons. If you would like to see a film of the day, then please follow this link: Year 7 Activity Day http://fernup.dorset.sch.uk/news/year-7-activity-day-2017/
And then today we had Y8 Transfer Day, where all of our upcoming Y9s came to experience life in their new school. Again I would like to thank Mrs Milsom and Mrs Locke for organising such a well organised and exciting event, as well as to the staff who delivered such wonderful lessons. I would also like to thank our Y9 students who performed at ‘Matilda’ at the Inauguration Ceremony, they were outstanding. We ran another very successful Duke of Edinburgh expedition over the weekend and despite the heat, everyone had a great time, so thank you to all of the staff who gave up their time to make it possible; Mr Martin, Mr Hayter, Mrs Maidment and Mrs Senington.
Y10 Work Experience
Year 10 had a very successful time on their work experience and with 100% of the year group on placement, the feedback that we have received has been that out students have been great ambassadors, so thank you to them and also to Mrs Hammock for organising such a large event.
