Outstanding Results Again
71% of students gained a GCSE grade 9-4 in English and Maths, making Ferndown Upper School the highest performing school in East Dorset for the second year running.
In fact, Ferndown Upper has seen an increase on all of its headline results, making 2017 Ferndown’s best ever year. Which after the superb results achieved last year, is quite an achievement.
- English grades 9 to 4 were 84% and Maths grades 9 to 4 were 78%.
- Other subject’s highlights were 75% A* and A grades for Textiles, 57% A* or A grades for Ethics and 50% A* or A grades for French.
- Photography gained 100% A*-C for the second year in a row.
- 24% of all grades achieved were also A* or A grades (or grades 9-7), and almost half of all grades achieved were A* to B.
Outstanding A Level Achievement
For A level, the students performed equally as well, with around of third of all grades being A* or A grades and all students gaining their expected place at University or into employment. Two of our students have even gone on to study Medicine.
In fact, students achieved a 100% pass rate.
The STEM subjects, (Maths, Biology, Physics and Engineering) had particularly high results with the Arts highlight being 100% A*-C for Fine Art. Other standout subjects were MFL, where every student gained an A grade in their French and German A levels.
The vocational subjects also performed very highly (Sport, Media, IT, Child Care and Engineering), with their results placing Ferndown Upper in the top 1% of the country for progress.
The figures for the other Dorset schools have not yet been released by the government for this year but Ferndown Upper’s result can be compared to the rest of Dorset for the previous year and it is a very favourable comparison.

6th Form Welcome Evening

Duke of Edinburgh
Good luck to the staff and students for their D of E expedition this weekend, I hope the weather is kinder to you than it has been over the last two weekends.
Free Microsoft Office 2016
The school has invested in Office 365, which means that every student can access the whole Office suite of programmes from home. All students have to do is go to the school web site and click on the Office 365 link, there is also a link for them to access their school documents from home (click Home Access). Once Office 365 has been selected the student then only needs to enter their email address and school password and they will then be able to download, install and use Office.
