PE Core

Reasons for studying the subject

Physical Education is important for many reasons.  “A healthy body leads to a healthy mind.”

You will work better if you are healthy!  Physical Education will help you understand how your body works and what you need to do to keep healthy.

We hope that learning about many different activities might encourage you to develop new interests, both during school time and as adults.  Participating in individual or team sports not only keeps you fit but also allows you to meet people and shows a commitment to positive use of leisure time.

What you will learn

We will build on the skills of previous years and give you the chance to try new activities.  In Years 10 and 11 you will study a variety of activities which will include many of the following:

Athletics
Football
Hockey
Water Polo
Tennis
Badminton
Softball
Rounders
Volleyball
Squash
Weight Training
Table Tennis
Major Games
Basketball
Swimming
Survival
Health Related Exercise

At the beginning of Year 10 you will be given a choice regarding the balance of games/individual activities that you will take.

Extra-Curricular Activities

All students must take on the role of coach/referee/umpire and lead sessions. This can result in a qualification in the Junior Sports Leaders Award. It is an opportunity for students of all standards to practice and for those with the ability to represent the school, county etc.  Various sporting competitions are organised throughout the year and awards presented.
