Computing

Students are placed in sets for this subject, based on SATs results and progress at Middle School. Those in top sets are prepared for the GCSE Computer Science option in year 10, lower sets are prepared for taking the BTEC Level 2 Information Creative Technology option.

During this year students will learn about hardware and software and they will also experience some programming.  Top sets will learn programming in more depth using Python programming language.  They will also learn about the history of computing and how it has developed since the early days.

During year 9 basic IT skills are also assessed and gaps filled where necessary.  An E-Safety programme is delivered to updated students in accordance with their age group.  As part of this parents and students are asked to explore and discuss the advice given by CEOP and made aware of how to report any concerns using the CEOP button on the School’s website.
